DIY Easy Peasy Felt Hair Bows

by Kortney Campbell on May 9, 2012

It’s safe to say that I LOVE bows! We have tons for Kennedy’s little noggin, but I wanted to see if I could easily make what I had been buying this whole time.

After deconstructing a few hair pieces, I figured out an easy and cheap way to make adorable bows with only a few supplies.

What You Need:

  • Glue gun
  • Felt
  • Alligator clips
  • Lace or extra fabric pieces

Directions:

Step 1: Cut an oval shaped piece out of your felt (the size depends on how big you want your bow).

Step 2: Scrunch the middle of the fabric and put some hot glue in between the creases.

Step 3: Wrap a piece of lace around the middle of the bow and glue it in place.

Step 4: This one is optional, but I went ahead and cut out a line of the felt to glue around the alligator clip for a no slip grip.

Step 5: Glue your bow to the clip and VOILA – you’re done!

You can also cut out a piece of square fabric for a more traditional bow like the one pictured at the top of the post!

What kind of hair accessories do you like to make for your babies? We’d love some fresh ideas!

I’ve made a lot of hairbows, but have never tried making one in felt. Will definitely try it. Thanks for the tutorial, VeganHousewives!

This all seems very adorable, but surely you should have mentioned (a) the importance of avoiding glue made from animals and (b) the use of non-wool felt. After all, we’re all about the veganism!

    Hey Vanilla Rose,
Sorry it took so long to get back with you, I’ve been out of town all week. However, you’re absolutely right – we should have been more specific. Sometimes we just get in the groove and assume these things without even realizing that our readers may not be doing the same. Thanks so much for pointing that out though – it’s nice to have a few extra pairs of eyes when we’re posting. We hope you have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
