  • Gluten-Free + Vegan Recipe | Smoothie Bowls: A Healthy Vegan Breakfast

by Randi Tisdall on March 6, 2014

healthyvegan1 They say your breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day. We know this is true, I mean, how good do you feel after eating a stack of pancakes loaded down with maple syrup (I know it’s tempting)? While there are a bunch choices for a vegan breakfast, many of them can involve animal product substitutes. Even though it’s a better choice to reach for these than real meats (no cholesterol, lower in fats, and best of all, no cruelty), it’s still not the best choice you can make for the first meal of the day.

For your next breakfast, try out one of the best creations EVER- a smoothie bowl! I’ve been seriously addicted to these recently, and it always fills me up and is oh-so satisfying.

Smoothie bowls are awesome because they are easy, quick, and versatile. You can switch them up each day of the week and add as many toppings as you like! Load ‘em up with nuts, oats, berries, or an assortment of fruit. Pack ‘em full of protein with some peanut butter or hemp protein powder. Or layer them with granola. No matter what you do, its a healthy (and fun!) way to eat a good vegan breakfast.

    Directions:

    1. Mix in a blender until smooth (you can add maca, cacao, or hemp too!).
    2. Pour into a bowl.
