Judah’s First Flight | Vegan in South Carolina

by Kortney Campbell on June 3, 2013

IMG_9323 Judah & I recently took a trip up to South Carolina to visit family. We had such a great time seeing everyone (some of which I hadn’t seen since my wedding)! It was his very first flight which was equally exciting & terrifying!

IMG_9353 IMG_9356 We spent most of our time with my grandpa and great-grandma (Judah’s great-great grandma- 5 generations. How crazy?!) in a teeny tiny town north of Greenville. And by small, I mean SMALL. For the first 5 days, we had internet problems and no WIFI having coffee shop in site! That ended up being a blessing in disguise though, forcing me to actually separate myself from work and re-evaluate a lot of things.

While we were there, we went to an awesome little festival and outdoor concert: Freedom Weekend Aloft. There was beer, rides, games, hot air balloons & live music- my kind of fun! We also had a BBQ with my dad’s side of the family that I don’t get to see too often! It seems my family only produces boys, but it was neat to see them all interact together and get an idea of what Judah may be like in a couple of years!

It was such a fun time with so many amazing people! I miss them & can’t wait to go back to visit! Do you have family that lives out of town? If so, where are they located and how do you stay close to them when you’re far away? If you’re in South Carolina, what are your favorite vegan stops? It seems to be a little limited, so I’m always looking for suggestions!

We’ve been using the travel Ergo lately & it is absolutely amazing- much cooler than our organic Ergo & it folds up into itself for easy packing! I don’t know how I would have made it without that thing! Baby wearing saves my life!

About Kortney Campbell

I'm Kortney; a wife, natural mama and vegan in love with life, food and all things vintage! I've been vegan since December 2007, but have loved to cook & create pretty things since before I can remember. I started Vegan Housewives because I don't think you have to give up the joys of food when going vegan! I have a fondness for re-creating non-vegan recipes (especially my grandma's), making a healthier & animal friendly version so be sure to send me your favorite concoctions by clicking our "share a recipe" button - I would LOVE to veg-i-fy them!

I just found your site this morning and am loving going through all the different post:) I am from SC! Anderson, actually. On Wednesdays the Chocolate Moose (down town Greenville bakery) has vegan treats. Just in case you are needing a sweet fix the next time you’re in town.

I just happened to come across your blog…it’s fun seeing Greenville mentioned! We actually have a vegan restaurant that just opened a month or two ago, called Lifeit Cafe. There are plenty of other options in town, too. The Greenville News did an article about the “vegan movement” that you can read here (and I’m quoted in it): Hope that helps for your next visit here!

Great links in the comments–we are driving up to North & South Carolina next month and will be on the hunt for veggie goodness along the way! Looks like a fun trip. :)
