Mr. & Mrs. Campbell: The Wedding

by Kortney Campbell on April 11, 2012

On February 26, 2011, just 6 months after we were engaged, I became Mrs. Campbell in front of over 250 of our favorite people. We planned everything ourselves and had our absolute dream (vegan) wedding at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton, FL. It was such a perfect evening, but the easiest way to take you through our special day is through photos & a video, of course, So I’ll just let you see it all for yourself.

For starters, we had the largest wedding party I’ve ever seen (12 on each side!) It was so much fun being surrounded by so many people we love!

Bridesmaids:

  • Macy Greer
  • Sheena Samanipour
  • Rachel Wilhite (MOH)
  • Erica Sloms (MOH)
  • Danielle Pomeroy
  • Ashley Sloms
  • Katie Bujnowski
  • Aubre Bledsoe
  • Sara Houza
  • Dayna Pfeiffer
  • Autumn Bledsoe
  • Robbie Lynn Robertson

Groomsmen:

  • Roobert “T” Freilich
  • Bob Pfeiffer
  • Josiah Sampson
  • Andrew Kosica
  • David Chan
  • Matt Desear
  • Jake Campbell (Best Man)
  • Eric Douglas
  • John Campbell (Best Man)
  • Matt Barrios
  • Jimmy Driscoll
  • Josh Card

Our cake fell, but some of our awesome friends rescued it!

And here’s a little video of our special day:

A lot of people would say we move quickly – met in October, dating in December, “i love you” in January, engaged in August, married in February, then a bun in the oven almost exactly a year later. However, we love it.

Getting married for us was never because it was “the next step” in our lives/relationship. It wasn’t because it was expected & there was never any pressure. It was simply because we love each other so much. There are still days that I realize I’m married to John & get super excited all over again. He’s my lobster & lobsters mate for life.

Fun Fact: John’s favorite UFC fighter, BJ Penn was fighting the night of our wedding, so after last call, we thanked everyone & invited them to join us at Winghouse for an after party. My feet hurt so badly that I had to walk around the place barefoot ( in my wedding dress). I’m sure they loved that we came though because we literally packed the place out!

What’s your wedding story? If you’re not married, what would your ideal wedding be like? I’d love to hear all about it!

About Kortney Campbell

I'm Kortney; a wife, natural mama and vegan in love with life, food and all things vintage! I've been vegan since December 2007, but have loved to cook & create pretty things since before I can remember. I started Vegan Housewives because I don't think you have to give up the joys of food when going vegan! I have a fondness for re-creating non-vegan recipes (especially my grandma's), making a healthier & animal friendly version so be sure to send me your favorite concoctions by clicking our "share a recipe" button - I would LOVE to veg-i-fy them!

Hi, I’m looking into getting married at the South Florida Museum too and I came across your blog during some research. It looks like you did your ceremony and reception in the plaza (something I’m considering too). Do you mind if I ask where the guests went while re configuring the layout before the reception?

We had the tables set up and hidden behind the curtains by the manatees during the ceremony then during cocktail hour, everyone went under the overhang towards the back while the tables were being set up :)

What a beautiful wedding! I am planning my vegan wedding in Bonita Springs, FL and am having some trouble finding a vegan caterer. Do you recommend Trang’s and what food was served at your wedding? Thank you so much!

Hi Amanda! We LOVED Trangs! It was SO cheap and based off of the # of people instead of the # of dishes. So we got to choose as many dishes as we wanted! While we don’t typically eat mock meat too often at home, we thought that route would probably be easier on our guests. We had the “chick-un” drumsticks, “steak” medallions and ginger “chick-un” with white + brown rice and sushi as an appetizer during cocktail hour. Since most of our guests weren’t vegan, we served them family style. Basically every table had big dishes of each item and could serve themselves. I would also highly suggest checking out Lotus Vegetarian. I’m not sure if they cater, but it’s one of my favorite places ever and they have an amazing vegan buffet!
