  • Vegan in New York: Babycakes

Babycakes NYCSo, remember how we’re in New York in search of the best vegan food ever? Well, if you like sweets, the nostalgic feel of an old school bakery, and the possibility of standing shoulder to shoulder with a celebrity, Babycakes is the place for you. This amazing little treasure has made a home on Broome Street, right off the Delancey/Essex stop of the F, J, M or Z & will knock your little socks off with their vegan, gluten-free & nut free treats!

Babycakes CookieEven though the bakery has recently expanded, to LA and a new-ish location in Orlando (which is only an hour or so away from home), we only get to visit the original every once & a while.  Needless to say, we splurged!

Babycakes Red VelvetI went with the chocolate chip cookie sandwich & John went with a traditional cupcake in his favorite flavor of all time- Red Velvet.  The homemade frosting is so delicious & rich but I couldn’t finish the whole thing in one sitting.  I took a little break & finished the other half of my cookie when we got back to the hotel!

Babycakes sweetsOf course, we had to take a few sweet treats for the road as well. It was fun to wake up the next morning to breakfast in bed by Babycakes. The biscuit & jelly is one of my favorites; it reminds me so much of the ones my grandma used to make me when I was little.  We also tried the spelt cinnamon bun and a cinnamon sugar doughnut- both of which we will dream about until our next visit.

    Babycakes Girls

Not only was the food amazing, but the company was just as swell!  These two lovely ladies (in their precious little peter pan collard uniforms!!) helped us out and even jotted down some more must-taste-places all around the city. We will definitely be saving that list for our next visit!

While we were indulging ourselves, we also met Jared & Mia, an amazing Canadian couple with a raw, all natural & bee-friendly honey company called Nude Bee Honey Co.  A portion of their proceeds even go to the Save Our Bees Campaign & Mia is a vegan Holistic Nutritionist- told you they are awesome!  We can’t wait to share our thoughts on their honey with you in the future…

All in all, Babycakes NYC was a complete success- good food, a cozy atmosphere & new friends.  We can’t complain about that!

Have you been to Babycakes in NYC?  What is your favorite treat?

    About Kortney Campbell

I'm Kortney; a wife, natural mama and vegan in love with life, food and all things vintage! I've been vegan since December 2007, but have loved to cook & create pretty things since before I can remember. I started Vegan Housewives because I don't think you have to give up the joys of food when going vegan! I have a fondness for re-creating non-vegan recipes (especially my grandma's), making a healthier & animal friendly version so be sure to send me your favorite concoctions by clicking our "share a recipe" button - I would LOVE to veg-i-fy them!
